Michael Grant linkedinSherpa Design and Applied CAx are pleased to announce the return of their manufacturing expert, Michael Grant, as Director of Manufacturing Technologies. Rejoining the team in March 2015, he brings a renowned passion for his projects.

Designing injection molds in 3D CAD and program mold-making in 3D CAM, Michael drives the development process from beginning to end. He tackles his projects with extensive hands-on experience. In previous projects, he has shown an ability to decrease cycle times by up to 300% and significantly improve product quality. His passion for design, overall process, and quality improvement continues to grow.

“My foremost passion and goal is to eliminate all unnecessary wasted movement,” he says. “To ensure that all work done by our team is value-added and utilizing their expertise. Most people do not enjoy the tedious steps that get in the way of doing the actual work.”

For customers and clients of Sherpa Design and Applied CAx, Michael looks forward to providing personalized, well-equipped solutions.

“We have an incredibly strong team of professionals with extensive experience and knowledge,” he says. “We have enterprise level software capabilities driving our design, advanced 5-axis machining capabilities driving our production, and 5-axis CMM inspection capabilities driving our quality. We are uniquely positioned to provide 1st class Siemens NX support to our customers being that we use the software day in and day out.”

About his coworkers, Michael says these are some of the “most knowledgeable and motivated engineers I have seen to date. We are constantly striving to learn more and openly brainstorm with each other.”

Michael began his career as Process Engineer in 1998, programming injection molding machines to produce plastic parts for light housings and polycarbonate lenses. During this time he also began to design parts for captive molding and custom molding in 3D CAD. His experience led to doing optimal part design for manufacturability, and then to building the molds in-house.

In his free time, Michael loves to explore the outdoors with wife Sarah, and children, Hannah, Jackson, and Hattie (ages 9, 8, and 8 months). He grew up around Lakes Merwin and Yale in Washington state, and consequently, wakeboarding and slalom waterskiing became life-long hobbies for him. Lucky for him, he spent time designing wakeboard towers in a previous position. Michael explains, “My career is also a strong passion of mine and I spend much of my free time learning more. My kids are already little design engineers.”
