In response, Srivatsa at LTK Engineering gave us a thorough look at their journey, first with using Ansys and eventually with switching to Simcenter Femap. We hope others find this useful and along the way, learn that Applied CAx has some of the best Femap support available:

LTK has had a long history with using ANSYS, as the most experienced and prominent FEA experts have been using ANSYS for a while. One of our senior engineers used Femap once and really liked it, so we decided to pursue it as it was very compatible with various input files. The enhancement of the geometry engine was a huge plus.

Stratolaunch’s ginormous twin-fuselage airplane emerged from its hanger for the first time in late May. Previously known as Vulcan Aerospace, the Stratolaunch aircraft had its scaffolding removed and achieved its first weight-on-wheels. The vehicle clocked in at approximately 500,000 lbs, perhaps signalling that like many of us it needs to cut back on all those heavy IPAs.

Equally impressive is the wingspan, clocking in with the world’s largest at 385 feet. By comparison, a National Football League field spans 360 feet.

Tooling manufacturing – a vital industrial sector
