Femap Symposium 2015 Seattle v2

Femap Symposium 2015 - Everett, Washington

September 23rd, 2015

Hosted by Applied CAx and Siemens PLM

This one-day free event was held at Boeing's Future of Flight Aviation Center near Everett, Washington. Among other things it focused on best practices for analysis efficiency for aerospace simulation engineers and aerospace suppliers.

Stress engineers from all fields used these sessions to find methods for shortening analysis timelines and creating process efficiencies.

The Symposium was presented in two sessions:

  • Morning session was a hands-on experience for users who want to test drive Femap and see what it can do in real time and have their questions answered by simulation engineers

  • Afternoon session was for simulation technologists from a wide variety of backgrounds

Morning Session, 8:30 am to 11:45 am

and Adrian Jensen, PE

8:30 - 9:00: Morning registration.

9:00 - 9:45: Our morning session will be a unique opportunity for the technical community to get hands-on experience using Femap and NX Nastran. This session will provide start-up information from loading the software, setting up the license to running your first analysis with Femap and NX Nastran.

9:45 - 10:30: Together we’ll explore some of the more powerful capabilities within Femap to almost automatically convert 3D CAD geometry into clean, functional mid-surface geometry that will lead to beautiful quad meshes for high-quality aerospace work.

10:45 - 11:30: The participant will also get information on where to find free training resources and have a chance to get answers from experienced simulation engineers that have used Femap and NX Nastran on a daily basis for longer than they can remember.

11:30 - 11:45: We'll wrap up the morning with any last questions and answers.

Noon to 1pm: Please join us for lunch.

Afternoon Session, 12 pm to 4:30 pm

Noon to 1pm: Lunch and afternoon session registration

1:00 - 1:45: After lunch, Siemens PLM guest speaker and Femap developer, Mark Sherman, will discuss what's new with Femap 11.2.1 and how analysis studies can help you organize your FEA data, reduce complexity, and save time.

1:45 - 2:45: Key speaker Ian Won presents on "Finite Element Modeling with Emphasis on Analysis Validation for FAA Certification Compliance"

2:45 - 3:15: Key speaker Joe Brackin presents on "Techniques to Increase Analysis Efficiency"

3:15 - 4:00: Modeling Best Practices with Predictive Engineering presenter George Laird, PhD, PE

4:00 - 4:30: The afternoon will wrap up with an open panel discussion among attendees, Mark Sherman, Patrick Safarian, George Laird, Chip Fricke, and Joe Brackin.
