The fifth littoral combat ship produced by Applied CAx client, Austal USA, rolled out of their shipyard in mid-May. The future USS Manchester (LCS-14) is part of an ongoing 11-ship contract worth more than $3.5 billion for Austal.
Scheduled for delivery in 2017, the ship maxes out at 40 knots (an equivalent speed of over 50 mph). With three ships built and seven others under construction, Austal says its LCS program is well under way. Others in the program include the Montgomery (LCS 8), the Gabrielle Giffords (LCS 10), the Omaha (LCS 12), the Tulsa (LCS 16), the Charleston (LCS 18) and the Cincinnati (LCS 20).
With its shallow draft, the Austal-built LCS is an advanced and agile 419-foot combat ship with the volume and payload capacity needed to support emerging missions.
“On behalf of Austal USA’s shipbuilding team, one of the most talented that I’ve ever worked with, we are proud to provide our sailors with an amazing warship that will honor the great city of Manchester as she defends our nation,” said Austal USA President Craig Perciavalle.
Applied CAx congratulates Austal on their success, and we are proud to provide ongoing support.
